How to sell on Marktplaats
Marktplaats is the Netherlands' largest online marketplace — the default place Dutch buyers look for almost anything second-hand, from fashion and sneakers to furniture. Here is how to list well, price right and sell safely.
What sells well on Marktplaats?
Because it is a general-goods marketplace, Marktplaats works for far more than clothing. It suits:
How to start selling on Marktplaats
Create your account
Register for free and complete your profile. A verified, responsive profile helps buyers trust you.
Photograph the item clearly
Use good light and several angles, and show any flaws honestly. Clear photos are the single biggest driver of enquiries.
Write a strong Dutch listing
Title and describe the item in Dutch, with the brand, size, condition and key details buyers search for. Pick the most specific category.
Price competitively
Search sold and active listings for the same item and price to match. A fair, clearly-justified price sells faster than a hopeful one.
Choose handover or shipping
Decide between local collection and Marktplaats' shipping and secure payment options. For anything valuable, prefer the secure payment flow over cash on collection.
Respond quickly and complete the sale
Answer questions promptly, agree the details, and post or hand over the item. Prompt, polite communication keeps buyers from moving on.
Marktplaats costs
Placing a basic ad is free in many categories, but Marktplaats has introduced placement and visibility fees for some listings and categories, plus optional paid options to make an ad stand out. These change over time and vary by category — always check the current rates in your Marktplaats account before listing.
Common mistakes to avoid
Sell faster: list beyond Marktplaats
Marktplaats reaches Dutch buyers; Vinted reaches a Europe-wide fashion audience. For clothing and shoes, the same item can sell on either — listing on both roughly doubles who sees it, without extra sourcing.
Relistly keeps one central inventory: import your Vinted listings, publish them to Marktplaats too, and when an item sells on either, the other copy comes down automatically so you never double-sell. See the Marktplaats integration and the Vinted + Marktplaats route. No mainstream crosslister reaches Marktplaats — Voolist doesn't support it and Crosslist doesn't serve EU sellers — Relistly does.
